Research: Semiconductor
lasers: optical feedback, nonlinear dynamics, optical chaos, optical
rogue waves, photonic neurons, speckle. Complex systems
and data analysis: networks, ordinal analysis, climate data analysis,
image analysis, extreme events, outlier detection, critical transitions,
tipping points, early warning indicators. Nonlinear
dynamics: excitability, neuronal dynamics, synchronization, stochastic
processes. You can
find information about the research group here; PhD
theses here; talks
with slides here; organized scientific events here; press
articles and videos here. Funding: Catalan Agency for Management of
University and Research Grants (AGAUR 2021 SGR 00606); Spanish State Research
Agency (AEI PID2021-123994NB-C2) and ICREA ACADEMIA. You can find
information about ongoing projects here and finished projects here. Teaching: I teach in the
School of Industrial, Aerospace and Audiovisual
Engineering of Terrassa (ESEIAAT),
in the School of Mathematics and Statistics (FME)
and in the Barcelona Master in Photonics.
I also regularly impart lectures in PhD schools. The slides in English are
available here. Looking
for a master project (TFM)? You can find possible topics here.
Please feel free to contact me for further information. Editorial activity: I am Section Editor of Chaos,
Solitons & Fractals (Elsevier) and Topical Editor of Optics Letters (Optica). Biography:
I
received the bachelor and master degrees in physics from Universidad de la República, Uruguay, where I was Assistant and Associate
Professor (1989-2004). I received the PhD degree in physics from Bryn Mawr College (USA) in 1999. I was a postdoctoral
researcher at University of Nice, at Bangor University and at Universitat de les Illes Balears (2000-2002). I joined Universitat
Politecnica de Catalunya
in 2004 as a Ramon and Cajal researcher, became
Associate Professor in 2009 and Professor (Catedratica)
in 2018. You can find here my CV. Awards: I
received three ICREA ACADEMIA awards (you can find my ICREA profile here).
I am fellow of the OPTICA society (formerly OSA, you can find my fellow
profile here). Contact
me: My office and the semiconductor laser lab are
located in Gaia Building, UPC Campus Terrassa. Address: Rambla St. Nebridi 22, Terrassa 08222, Spain. cristina.masoller @ upc.edu,
